The UNESCO Chair, in cooperation with the Jean Monnet Chair, invited Dr. Christoph Graf, Swiss Ambassador in Tirana, for an open lecture on “Direct democracy – Swiss experience” with the students and lecturers of Marin Barleti University. After the institutional welcoming by the Rector of Marin Barleti University Prof. Dr. Marenglen Spiro and university representatives, the Ambassador spoke about the democracy and ways of implementing it in Switzerland through direct democracy, referendums and political processes. Dr. Graf explained the referendum or civic initiatives applied in Switzerland and mentioned samples from Albania on this issue. Students and lecturers made different questions about the way of implementing the democracy in Albania, the level of corruption and how to face it as an obstacle for the democracy.
